Religious divisions played an important role in the crisis. Judaism became the dominant religion of the Himyarite Kingdom in Yemen after about , while Christianity took root in the Persian Gulf. Much of Arabia remained polytheistic but there was a desire for a more spiritual form of religion even though many were reluctant to convert to a foreign faith.

On the eve of the Islamic era, the Quraysh was the main tribe of Mecca and a dominant force in western Arabia. According to tradition, the Islamic prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca around the year and his family belonged to the Quraysh. At the age of forty, he began receiving divine revelations through the angel Gabriel, which would later form the Quran. These inspirations forced him to proclaim a rigid monotheistic faith , and warn of the imminent Day of Judgement , and punish the social injustices of his city.

This message, however, won few followers and met with opposition from the notables of Mecca. In , after losing his protection with the death of his influential uncle Abu Talib , Muhammad emigrated to the city of Yathrib later called Medina where he was joined by his followers.

Generations defined this event as the hijra, as the beginning of the Islamic era. They oversaw the initial phase of the Muslim conquests, advancing through Persia, the Levant, Egypt , and North Africa. Islamic art refers to the visual arts produced in the Islamic world including religious and secular art forms. The start of Islam is marked in the year , following the first revelation to the prophet Muhammad at the age of Muhammad and his followers spread the teachings of Islam throughout the Arabian peninsula. Soon after the death of the prophet Muhammad, there were military expeditions, called "futuhat," or literally "openings," into what is now Egypt and other parts of North Africa.

According to Muslim belief, at the age of 40, Muhammad is visited by the angel Gabriel while on retreat in a cave near Mecca. The angel recites to him the first revelations of the Quran and informs him that he is God's prophet.

Later, Muhammad is told to call his people to the worship of the one God, but they react with hostility and begin to persecute him and his followers. After enduring persecution in Mecca, Muhammad and his followers migrate to the nearby town of Yathrib later to be known as Medina , where the people there accepted Islam. This marks the "hijrah" or "emigration," and the beginning of the Islamic calendar. In Medina, Muhammad establishes an Islamic state based on the laws revealed in the Quran and the inspired guidance coming to him from God.

Eventually he begins to invite other tribes and nations to Islam. Muhammad returns to Mecca with a large number of his followers. He enters the city peacefully, and eventually all its citizens accept Islam.

We believe that God has communicated with man through the prophets He sends from the time of Adam forward. We both believe that due to alterations made by man, a new prophet and new scripture were needed to restore truths that have been altered. Our view of the nature of God differs, but not more so than the LDS view of God differs from that of some other Christian denominations. Our view of the mission of Jesus Christ differs, but less so than the ways that the view of Jesus Christ in Jewish faith differs from….

Muhammad and the Muslims were then recognized as a new force in Arabia. Unfortunately, Mecca broke the treaty soon after it was signed. Power soon transferred from Mecca to the Muslims in Medina. Muhammad led his troops to Mecca where they penetrated the city. The barbarians would not listen to anything that anyone would have to say.
